Author Support

Your Book Is Out. Now Let It Work for You

Writing your book was a big step. Getting it into the right hands is the next one. DQ Consulting, LLC helps you plan how to share your book, get ready for interviews and events, and decide which offers are worth your time. Whether your book comes out next month or came out years ago, there is a next step, and we can help you find it.

Who This Service Supports

This service is for new and seasoned authors of every kind of book, from children’s books and memoirs to devotionals and guides, whether you published on your own or with a publishing company. It is also for speakers, coaches, teachers, ministers, and business owners who want their book to open doors. Some want to teach what their book shares through a course or workshop, and others want a song that carries their story to new readers. Maybe writing is not your main work. You may be known for your career on the stage, on the field, in the classroom, or in the pulpit, and now you have a book to share. You do not have to figure it out alone. If you published somewhere else or already had some help, you are welcome here. Doing this while working full time? We help you plan steps that fit the time you have, starting with where your book is today.

What Every Author Should Know

Being an author is a job, not just a title. Many authors learn this along the way, and that is okay. The same book can lead to very different results, depending on what you want it to do. One author wants to sell copies. Another wants to speak, find clients, or build trust in their field.

The authors you see everywhere usually have a team behind them. That team helps them plan, prepare, and say yes to the right things. Not every invitation is a good one, so take a close look at every offer before you agree.

Writing about your own life? Your story may include other people, and sharing it can affect them and you. In the series The Cost of Telling What You Survived, Dr. TAS and Felicia Kelly Brookins talk about what to think through before you put your life on the page. They cover legal concerns and how sharing hard moments can affect your family, your relationships, and you. Watch the full series on YouTube before you publish your story.

Dr. TAS Tip: Be careful with emails that promise bookstore placement, awards, or big media spots for a fee. Before you pay, ask what you get, who will see it, and what results other authors have had. Want to know why owning your ISBN matters? Publishing Support explains it.

Dr. TAS Tip: Many people do not carry cash, so set up a way to take card or phone payments before the event, such as a Square card reader, Cash App, or PayPal, and test it before you leave home. Bring more books than you expect to sell, because running out means missing a sale.

Need a banner for your table? Author Materials covers that. Speaking about your work beyond your book? Media Visibility includes Media Coaching.

Dr. TAS Tip: Ask your readers which chapter helped them most. That chapter is often where your first course or workshop begins.

Some people will hear your story before they ever read it. An original song can carry the heart of your book in a few minutes and send listeners looking for the rest of the story. Teachers love a good children’s book, and they also need to show how each lesson connects to what students must learn. A guide that matches your book to state standards makes it easy for a teacher, librarian, or afterschool leader to choose your book. We create lessons, discussion questions, and activities that tie your story to the standards schools use.
Dr. TAS Tip: Look up the reading standards for the grades your book fits, then list two or three your story already teaches, like naming a character’s feelings or retelling events in order. Lead with those when you talk to a school.
Running an afterschool program that needs lessons tied to standards? 21st CCLC Afterschool Support helps with that.

How DQ Consulting Can Help

Author Strategy
Start here if you want your book to do more for you. We help you decide what you want your book to lead to, like speaking, clients, or trust in your field, and plan how to get there. If you want to be known for your expertise more than for a book, Professional Positioning under Media Visibility covers that.

Book Promotion Plan
Get a clear plan for spreading the word about your book, with what to do before, during, and after launch. A plan works for a book coming out next month or one that came out years ago. If you want to grow the reach of your business or expertise instead of one book, Visibility Strategy under Media Visibility covers that.

Author Materials
We help you put together what authors need to share their book. That can include business cards, a media kit, headshots, an author bio, and a banner for your vendor table. It can also include social media posts and a book trailer that promote your book. A media kit is a short packet that tells hosts and event planners who you are, what your book is about, and what you can speak on. A banner helps people spot your table from across the room and sets you apart from the other vendors around you. A book trailer is a short video, like a movie preview, that gives people a taste of your book. If you need a professional bio for your career or business, Professional Bio Writing under Media Visibility covers that.

Talking Points
Get short, clear points about your book that you can use in interviews, on stage, and in everyday talks. If you want clear words for your business or your work as a whole, Message Development under Media Visibility covers that.

Evaluating and Responding to Opportunities
Once your book is out, offers start to arrive. Some are real, and some are scams that promise to put your book in bookstores or in front of thousands of readers if you pay a fee. We help you check whether an offer is legitimate and worth your time and write your reply. When the offer is real, we help you prepare for the call with the person in charge, so you know what to ask about pay, travel, book sales, and what is expected of you.

Interview Preparation and Review
Get ready for book interviews on podcasts, radio, TV, and livestreams. After the interview, we review how it went and what to keep or change. For interviews about your business or expertise, see Media Visibility.

Book to Course
Your readers may want to go deeper than your book allows. A course or workshop lets them learn from you step by step, whether in a room, on a video call, or on their own time. We turn your chapters into lessons, choose activities that help each idea make sense, and create the handouts and quizzes that show what readers have learned. Once your course is built, we can connect you with someone to set it up on the website or course platform you choose. If you need training for your staff or volunteers, Training and Course Development under Organizational Strategy covers that.

Book to Song Development
Your book holds a message, and some people will feel it first through music. We connect you with a trusted music team that writes and records original songs based on books. From the first idea to the final recording, you and the music team create the song together, and your agreement is made directly with them. Before you sign, ask who will own the words, the music, and the recording, and how you may use the song to promote your book. If you already have a song, Book Promotion Plan can help you use it to reach readers.

Classroom and Reading Guides
If you wrote a children’s book, schools and libraries are more likely to buy it when it comes with lessons that match state standards. We read your book with your readers’ grade levels in mind. Then we create a guide with lessons, discussion questions, and activities tied to what teachers are required to teach. Each state sets its own standards, so we can match your guide to the states where you want to sell. We also create reading guides with discussion questions for book clubs, churches, and community groups. These guides help groups talk about your book, while a companion workbook under Publishing Support gives each reader a place to write. If you want to teach your book yourself, Book to Course covers that.

Speaking and Event Readiness
Get ready for book talks, signings, panels, and vendor tables, including how to set up and sell your books in person. If you speak about your work or expertise beyond your book, Media Coaching under Media Visibility covers that.

Still Writing or Getting Ready to Publish?

Why Work With Dr. TAS

When you work with Dr. TAS, you work with someone who has been on every side of the author journey. She has published books ranging from her life story, STRONGER, to her cookbook, TransFORM with TAS, and promoted them through interviews, signings, and events. As host of Talk With TAS, she also sits in the host's chair, so she knows what makes an author a great guest. She is the Executive Editor of Conversations Magazine and an editor for ChosenPen, and she helps you make the most of every chance to share your book. Every kind of book reaches readers in its own way. A memoir, a cookbook, a parable, and a guide each call for a different plan, and Dr. TAS has written and promoted each kind, so she can help whether your book tells a story, teaches a skill, or shares favorite recipes. See the books she has written.
